The two Elric brothers have shown themselves to be good at alchemy ever since they were small. Edward, the older brother, and Al, a year younger, live together with their mother in the village of Resembool; their father has abandoned them to go on a long journey they know nothing about. One sad day their mother falls ill and dies, leaving them alone in the world.
But Ed refuses to give up and suggests a forbidden thing to Al: bringing her back to life using alchemy! The transmutation does not go as planned and the two pay a heavy price: Al loses his entire body, but his soul is affixed to a suit of armor, allowing him to remain in this world; while Ed loses an arm and a leg.
Once Edward’s missing limbs have been reconstructed using metal prostheses, the two brothers set out on a journey that will take them in search of the Philosopher’s Stone, a mythical object which is said to make anything possible, even giving Al his body back and Ed his arm and his leg.
A long adventure which will lead them to discover shocking truths about their world, but also about their past. And which will teach the two brothers the price of their actions!
