Stand Alone Complex is the animated series taken from the celebrated manga Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow. In two series of 26 episodes each (each lasting approximately 25 minutes), Stand Alone Complex tells of the adventures of Section 9 of the police force, set in a Japan of the near future.
Section 9, led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, is employed directly by the government, its main task being to fight cyber-terrorism.
The animation is a perfect synthesis between classic drawings and computer graphics, thanks to a creative staff including Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop) and Kenji Kamiyama (BLOOD, Jin-Roh) and produced by Bandai and Production I.G (GHOST IN THE SHELL, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, Kill Bill Vol. 1).
