Six years after a catastrophic earthquake devastated Tokyo, Masane Amaha and her daughter Rihoko return to the metropolis, having fled from the NSWF (National Scientific Welfare Foundation) child welfare division, and now wish to live their lives together in peace. But the child welfare division follows them and takes away Rihoko by force. In her attempt to stop them, Masane ends up spending a night in jail, and shortly afterwards, her Witchblade “awakes”. However, Masane does not understand her transformation into a fighter or these strange lights on her arm. Witchblade is based on the American comic of the same name from publishing house Top Cow. Directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi (Planetes, Witch Hunter Robin), the GONZO studio (BURST ANGEL, LAST EXILE) has created a brand-new story from it.
